Astha Shakti
“If you can’t feed a hundred people then feed just one.” – Mother Teresa
Hunger remains the No.1 cause of death in the world. 1/3rd of the world’s hungry live in India. Over 7000 children die every day in India due to hunger, this information overwhelmed me when Ms. Aruna told me this. She is the founder of the NGO called Astha Shakti and while I was living in Bangalore, I send her an email to ask her if I could be part of her project.
I could feel a strong connection the first time I met her and still today I am so thankful for the experience she gave me. Astha Shakti started the program with 250 children in 2009 in Bangalore and by the year 2016 with the support of Philanthropic Individuals, Corporates, The Kelloggs and QSI Health Care, Astha Shakti has provided more than two million feeds to the underprivileged children at 6 cities in India.
I went to a beautiful school in Bangalore, where I could see the UTRI – ED Program, that was provided to the children by Ms. Aruna and her husband. They offer the children a warm meal every single day during their lunch time and the kids love it! It is good to realize sometimes that the things we take for granted are not always possible for everybody in this world. Nutrition is so important for children to have, because they need the energy to study and to become better at school. Thanks to Astha Shakti they have the possibility to do so and I am really happy to be a small part of this project.
