Small Durban Guide
I love to travel, duh?! While I was living in Cape Town I decided to meet up with my friend Ntethelelo in Durban. He lives there and was so kind to show me around. A lot of people who visit South Africa miss out on Durban and that is such a pity because the city is surrounded by a lot of green which is extremely refreshing. The city has an exciting vibe going on. There are great areas for shopping, dinner, drinks, the nightlife is good and the next morning you can surf in the ocean or just chill at the beach.
Places that you should visit:
1. The Golden Mile – This beachfront is amazing. You can walk a long the beach or on the boulevard or you just relax and mingle with some locals. You can chat with the surfers, the families who are playing with their kids or with some Durban hipsters.
2. Florida Road – This is really the place to be if you wanne grab some great food. You can really feel the urban street vibe and see the unique historic architecture on Florida Road as you pic a nice restaurant, visit one of the galleries, boutiques, studios and bars in this street.
3. Botanic Gardens – This garden is a must visit if you wanne escape from the buzz of the city. It is very clean and you can find a lot of historical plants in this garden. Besides that it is a beautiful place for taking photos. While you are walking in this garden you will see a lot of couples with a photographer getting their wedding pictures shot.
4. Curiocity Hostel – this place is great if you wanne stay in Durban for a few days. This hostel is housed in the historic 1930 Union Style building, Ambassador House, and centrally located at the Rivertown Triangle neighbourhood. The rooms are simple but the breakfast is great and they offer all kinds of activities so never a dull moment at this place.
So my advice, give Durban a change because this city will surprise you!
